ZF Transics realised the need for specialist IT service provider to assist with the data centre migration project due to loss of a team member. ZF Transics partnered with Dataxive to assist with MongoDB migration tasks from legacy data centre to new data centre hosted in private cloud.
The challenge
ZF Transics unfortunately lost a member of their technical team impacting delivery of project and needed immediate assistance with MongoDB upgrade and migration until a suitable replacement was found. ZF Transics engaged with Dataxive to work as an extension to their existing technical team and assist with various MongoDB database migration tasks including upgrade and high availability configuration of their existing monitoring tool - MongoDB Ops Manager.
ZF Transics’s MongoDB database platform was hosted on physical servers built with Ubuntu 16.04 and MongoDB 3.4 Enterprise Edition. MongoDB ReplicaSets and Shards were monitored via Ops Manager version 3.6. The challenge was to devise a strategy to migrate large MongoDB ReplicaSets with version upgrade, upgrade MongoDB Ops Manager from version 3.6 to 4.0 with high availability and assist with MongoDB database sharding strategy and performance related issues.
“Our immediate priorities at ZF Transics are to establish a strategy to migrate large MongoDB ReplicaSets, Ops Manager upgrade with High Availability and performance issues with MongoDB Shards.” - Lieven Masschelein, Technical Lead Data, ZF Group, Transics International BVBA
ZF Transics’s technical team lacked MongoDB expertise and ZF Transics’s Technical Lead Lieven Masschelein had his hands full will other priorities. He recognized the need for database partner with proficiency in MongoDB with experience MongoDB. Dataxive’s expertise in MongoDB was the perfect fit for ZF Transics and we jumped right in!
The solution
Dataxive began conducting Database Inventory followed by Infrastructure, tooling and database configuration assessment to establish migration strategy with improved monitoring infrastructure. We used our expertise, revealing the upgrade strategy for MongoDB ReplicaSets, Shards and Ops Manager Monitoring tool with High Availability configuration.
